HISTORY
Alum stone is a mineral found naturally in various parts of the world. The first traces of its use were discovered in Syria, around its capital, Damascus. Made of mineral salts and used since Antiquity, alum stone is extracted from natural alunite mines. It is shaped like a transparent and odorless crystal in its raw state. It also comes polished in the form of a stick, liquid in the form of a spray, or as a powder.
Today, alum stone is commonly used as a natural deodorant or as an after-shave for its astringent and haemostatic qualities. In Antiquity, it was mainly used as a mordant in dyeing.
